French government officials have reported that an attack on the high-speed train network has caused traffic issues, impacting hundreds of thousands of passengers. This attack occurred just a few hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The sabotage took place between 01:00 and 05:30 in the morning, as a fire broke out in the signaling facilities of the high-speed train (TGV) lines. The incident directly affected three of the four TGV axes departing from Paris: the North axis (serving Eurostar trains to London, Brussels, the Netherlands, and northern Germany), the East axis, and the North Atlantic axis.

Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Paris region, condemned this "attempt to destabilize France on such an important day." Pécresse stated, "France is facing a coordinated sabotage attempt on 4 TGV networks, aiming to disrupt stability at the start of the Olympic Games. We ask passengers who need to take a TGV from the Ile-de-France region to avoid going to the station and to wait for personalized information that will be sent to them via SMS."
