According to a new Wall Street Journal poll, the U.S. presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is incredibly close. The poll revealed that support for Harris has increased among non-white voters and enthusiasm for her campaign among Democrats has significantly grown.

In a head-to-head match-up, Trump has a slight lead with 49% of the vote compared to Harris's 47%. However, it is worth noting that this falls within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 points. Before withdrawing from the race and endorsing Harris, Trump held a six-point advantage over President Joe Biden.

When other independent and third-party candidates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are included in the ballot test, Harris received 45% support compared to Trump's 44%. Kennedy had the support of only 4% of the participants, and 5% were undecided. In the previous poll, Biden was six points behind Trump in this multi-candidate scenario.

Both the Harris and Trump campaigns are currently in a race to create a clearer public image for the vice president. The poll shows that Harris is viewed favorably by 46% of participants and unfavorably by 52%, marking the highest favorability rating for her in this election cycle.

According to the poll results, Trump is seen as more capable than Harris in handling immigration, the economy, foreign relations, and crime. However, Harris holds an advantage of 51% to 33% on handling abortion. Both received similar scores on caring about people like the participants.

The poll also revealed that 48% of participants believe the 78-year-old Trump is too old to serve as president, while only 2% expressed the same concern for the 59-year-old Harris. Moreover, 46% of participants believe Harris has the right temperament to be president, compared to only 38% for Trump.

The poll highlighted that many voters are in the process of getting to know the possible vice-presidential candidates evaluated by Harris. She is expected to announce her selection by August 7 to meet her party's virtual nomination process deadline.

The Wall Street Journal poll, conducted by Bocian from GBAO and Lee from Fabrizio Lee, included interviews with 1,000 registered voters from July 23-25. The margin of error for the entire sample is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
