Sudan rebels down military jet
Sudanese rebels in the South Kordofan state say they have successfully gunned down a military aircraft jet, after it bombed targets controlled by them.

The rebel group, known as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-North) confirmed that the bomber crashed in the Jau area after being shot down,

Khartoum is yet to respond to claims made by the rebels, with no independent verification of the incident able to be found, due to the lack of access to the area.

According to the SPLM-North, the government military aircraft was shot down of Wednesday afternoon, near the disputed border area of Sudan and South Sudan.

Fighting between the rebels and the government has intensified over the past few months, with the South Kordofan state capital, Kadugli, being shelled twice by SPLM-North fighters.

The conflict in the region has resulted in tens of thousands of people fleeing to escape the intense fighting between government troops and rebel forces.
