A statutory inquiry will be held by the Irish government into the tragic death of an Indian dentist Savita Halappanavar, an Irish Minister told the reporters today in Bengaluru. Savita had died after she was denied abortion following a miscarriage. The issue had prompted the Irish Cabinet to discuss the anti-abortion law in the country.

Ireland's Minister for Higher Education and Skills, Ciaran Cannon T D said that medical inquiry would also continue as to determine the medical circumstances of Savita's death.

He added that any amendment in the country's law could be possible only after detailed report from the expert group, probing the matter, is discerned.
