General Staff releases photos of large-scale operation against PKK in Southeast
The General Staff released on its official website on Tuesday 21 photos of a large-scale military operation that was carried out against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist organization in rural areas of the southeastern provinces of Hakkari and Şırnak between Oct. 30 and Nov. 7.

In a written statement released with the photos, the General Staff said the operation had been launched based on tips they received indicating that PKK terrorists had begun their preparations for winter, retreating to bases in rural areas in Hakkari and Şırnak. The Turkish military carried out a number of operations against PKK targets in those areas over eight days, the General Staff announced.

Each year before winter arrives, the PKK declares a ceasefire and moves into rural areas in eastern Turkey in a tactical maneuver.

The General Staff also stated that these operations by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) dealt a critical blow to the terrorist organization's winter preparations and caused the deaths of three PKK terrorists in the Kavaklı region, near Hakkari province.

The operations were conducted in difficult weather conditions over an area 50 kilometers by 20 kilometers, where the terrain includes high rock faces and deep valleys at an altitude averaging 2,500 meters above sea level, according to the General Staff.

The statement also explained that seven military battalions, two special forces battalions, a gendarmerie special operations battalion, two police special operations teams and numerous village guards took part in the operations. The General Staff also stated that large quantities of weapons, explosives, ammunition, clothes, kitchen equipment and food stocks belonging to PKK terrorists were seized by the military in these operations.
