Davutoğlu visits Algeria for Non-Aligned Movement meeting
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu is paying a visit to Algeria from May 28-29 to attend the 17th ministerial conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Turkey has been taking part in the movement's meetings with "guest" status, as it is not a member of the movement. The foreign minister is participating in the meeting at the invitation of Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra.

Davutoğlu is expected to have bilateral meetings with foreign ministers of other participating countries and exchange views on bilateral ties and regional issues.

The 16th NAM summit took place in Tehran in 2012, but Turkey did not attend. NAM, born at the height of the Cold War, brings together nations that consider themselves independent of the world's major power blocs. The movement, which was founded in the former Yugoslavia in 1955 and is the largest grouping of countries outside the UN, aims to give a voice to the developing world.
