Three security force members martyred in SE Turkey
Three members of Turkish security forces were martyred Friday in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir, the Turkish army said.
In a statement published on its website, the Turkish General Staff said two soldiers and one police officer had been "critically injured” in an attack staged by a "separatist terror organization” in reference to the PKK. The army added that the attack occurred in the Sur district.
"Those injured were rushed to the hospital, but they succumbed to their wounds despite all interventions, becoming martyrs at about 05:45 [0345GMT, Friday],” the army said.
The PKK -- considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.
Since then, more than 270 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
