Security forces kill 19 ISIL militants in western Iraq
The International Red Cross has also delivered humanitarian aid to 665 internally displaced families in Anbar province.

At least 19 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants were killed Wednesday when Iraqi security forces repelled the terrorist group’s attacks in western Iraq’s Anbar province, a police source said.

The Iraqi forces had the support of local tribal fighters in clashes that took place in Ramadi city, capital of Anbar.

"The Iraqi army and police forces, backed by tribal fighters, repelled ISIL attacks on Ramadi city from its southern, eastern and northern border fronts. Iraqi security forces took defensive and offensive positions, and killed 19 ISIL terrorists,” provincial police chief Kazim Mohammed al-Fahdawi said.

"A number of tribal fighters and Iraqi security were also wounded in the clashes,” al-Fahdawi added.

There was no independent way to verify the claims of Iraqi authorities.

Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross delivered humanitarian aid to 665 internally displaced Iraqi families, who are besieged by ISIL in Anbar's Amiriyah district Wednesday, an Iraqi government official said.

"The ISIL has besieged the district from three hubs, while the supplies could only reach from the only available southern hub that connects the area with the Iraqi capital Baghdad,” Shakir Mahmoud, president of the Amiriyah district’s city council, said.

The delivered aid contained food supplies worth $160 for each family, Mahmoud added.

Internally displaced persons are a major problem in Iraq. The Iraqi government officially recorded 470,000 internally displaced persons in the country.

The ISIL terrorist group controls many areas of Anbar governorate, and is now attempting to take complete control of Ramadi city.

The U.S. is leading an international coalition that has carried out numerous airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and Syria since the militant group took over Mosul, in northern Iraq, in June.
