Iran plans to increase cooperation with Russia particularly on the construction of new pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

The new phase of negotiations on increasing collaboration in energy relations between Iran and Russia has begun, Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International and Commercial Affairs, Ali Majedi said Wednesday.

Iran plans to increase its cooperation with Russia particularly on the construction of new pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, he told Iranian news agency Mehr.

Managing-Director of the National Iranian Gas Company Hamid-Reza Araqi told Mehr that during Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to Russia last week, he held meetings with Russian energy giant Gazprom, to discuss further cooperation in natural gas.

"Iran and Russia have mutual benefits in global gas markets as the two giant gas producers,” Araqi said.

Iran and Russia has been strengthening ties in the recent years particularly in energy sectors. The two countries signed a $10 billion agreement on May, for construction of thermal power and hydroelectric power plants in Iran by Russian companies.
