July 15 coup bid leaves 146 martyred in Turkish capital
A total of 146 people were martyred in Turkish capital Ankara during July 15 coup attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), according to the governor's office on Tuesday.

"Fifty-six police officers, two soldiers and 88 civilians were martyred as they were trying to thwart the coup attempt," the statement said, adding that the bid also left 23 putschists dead.

The coup attempt also injured 1,187 people, out of which 44 are still hospitalized, according to the statement. Eight still remain in intensive care.

A total of 5,398 people have been detained in the capital as part of the FETO probe, with 3,679 suspects having been remanded.

The statement further said 615 people were still under detention, while 704 others were released under judicial control.

"78 suspects were sent to other provinces and 322 were released," it added.

The probe also led to the suspension of 3,477 people from work, while 74 FETO members were dismissed.

Meanwhile, 308 institutions, including 88 schools, were closed over alleged links with FETO.

The others include 73 associations, two universities, 47 private tuition centers, 22 trade unions, 12 private study centers, 10 foundations, seven health institutions and 11 media outlets.

Ankara has repeatedly said the coup attempt was organized by followers of U.S.-based preacher Fetullah Gulen and FETO.

Gulen is also accused of leading a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of state institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the parallel state.

The July 15 coup attempt left 240 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Approximately 13,000 members of the military, police, and judiciary as well as civil servants have been detained and 6,000 remanded in custody since the failed putsch, and tens of thousands of suspected Gulenists removed from their posts.
