Essebsi officially declared Tunisia's president
Beji Caid Essebsi was on Monday officially declared the winner of Tunisia's latest presidential runoff poll.
Announcing the final results, election commission chief Chafiq Sersar said Essebsi, the candidate of the Nidaa Tounes Party, won 55.68 percent of votes.
His rival, outgoing Interim President Moncef Marzouki, won 44.32 percent of the votes.
Last week, the commission declared Essebsi to be the winner of the runoff poll, but the announcement of the final results was delayed pending two appeals lodged with the Administrative Court.
The court had turned down both appeals.
Tunisia's elected parliament is due to hold a special session on Wednesday during which Essebsi will be sown in.
Essebsi is due to officially start his tenure on January 14.
The presidential election was the first to take place in this North African country since 2011 when a popular uprising ended the rule of autocratic President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali.
