At least 16 dead in Mexico as train and bus collide
Authorities say bus driver tried to overtake train at railroad crossing.
At least 16 people were killed and 30 injured Friday night when a bus and a train collided in the town of Anahuac in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.
State authorities said the bus was hit by the train at approximately 6 p.m. local time (GMT1200) in the area of the Camarones train station in the northern area of the state that shares a border with the U.S. state of Texas.
The bus that was overcrowded, according to authorities, tried to overtake the train at a railroad crossing when the crash occurred.
Members of the civil force of Nuevo Laredo and soldiers were assisting victims who were taken to two area hospitals.
